Our latest article — dealing with MD simulations and X-ray crystallography of HRas implicated in cancer — has now been published in ACS Omega!

Done in collaboration with the LaPlante lab:

Mutations in Ras proteins are a major cause of cancer, but until recently, these proteins were thought to be “undruggable.” Herein, a small surface pocket on Ras that may serve as a new target for therapies was characterized. Using structural studies and computer simulations, we found that this pocket is usually hidden when Ras is in its inactive form but opens up when Ras is active—especially in cancer-causing mutants. A key part of the protein acts like a “switch” to block or expose the pocket. These insights could guide the development of drugs that shut down Ras-driven cancers.
