To celebrate the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the International Meeting on the Biology of Myxobacteria (i.e. the "MyxoMeeting"), we "myxologists" (that's it, claimed it, that's what we will now OFFICIALLY be known as!) got together to contribute a review article to the Journal of Bacteriology's special collection on the History of Microbial Model Systems. And, of course, what model bacterium can be any cooler than Myxococcus xanthus, amiright?!
Everybody contributed different sections, with author order being based on the order of one's contribution(s) in the manuscript.
I have NEVER had this much fun writing a review article! At times I was almost giddy as I was tracking down very old articles to get to the true basis behind certain myxo "facts". Gotta give credit where credit is due, right?
Anyways, for tons of interesting history and factoids about Myxococcus xanthus, definitely check out this exceptionally well written review article ;)
